DEF Tanks
A DEF tank stores diesel exhaust fluid on site so fleets, farms and contractors can refill trucks and equipment without handling jugs. This collection covers portable transfer tanks, poly totes, heated double wall cubes and insulated systems, most with built-in pumps, hoses and nozzles. Pick a DEF storage tank by climate, volume and whether it needs to travel to the equipment.
How to choose
- Cold climates: DEF freezes at about 12°F. Choose a heated or insulated unit, or keep the tank indoors.
- Heat and sun: high heat and direct sun shorten DEF shelf life. Shade the tank or choose an enclosed unit.
- Portable or fixed: portable tanks ride in a pickup to machines in the field. Cubes and larger systems serve a fleet yard.
- Materials: use equipment compatible with ISO 22241, the standard for DEF quality. Separate dispensing gear is in DEF dispensers and systems.
Common questions
Can I use a fuel tank or fuel pump for DEF?
No. Use equipment made for DEF only. Parts that have held fuel or oil can contaminate DEF and damage the emissions system.
How do I fill a DEF tank?
Most sites fill from bulk delivery or from totes. To move DEF out of totes, see DEF pumps and tote kits.
