Gasoline Storage Tanks

Each gasoline storage tank in this collection is an above-ground steel tank that can hold gasoline or diesel. Fleets with gas vehicles, landscapers, farms and municipal yards use them to fuel pickups, mowers and small engines on site. Gasoline is more volatile than diesel, so codes set stricter rules for tank type, venting and location.

How to choose

  • Fire rating: some codes require UL-2085 fire-rated tanks for gasoline near buildings, at tight setbacks or at public sites. Ask your fire marshal early.
  • Venting: gasoline tanks need the right normal and emergency vents. Confirm the vent hardware meets your local code.
  • Fill point: many codes call for overfill prevention and a spill container at the fill. See fuel tank accessories.
  • Pump: use a pump listed for gasoline. Not every fuel pump is.

Common questions

Can I store gasoline in a single wall tank?
Some sites can, but many codes call for double wall or fire-rated tanks for gasoline. The answer depends on your location, so check with your local fire marshal.

Does gasoline count toward the SPCC threshold?
Yes. Gasoline counts as an oil product under the EPA SPCC rule, which can apply when a site stores more than 1,320 gallons above ground in total.
