Used Oil Drains and Collection
A used oil drain catches oil under a vehicle during an oil change and carries it to your bulk used oil tank. This collection includes a JohnDow low profile drain with a built-in electric pump and an American Lube oil drain cart on casters. Repair shops, quick lubes, fleet garages and dealer service departments keep them at each service bay.
How to choose
- Clearance: low profile drains slide under vehicles with little ground clearance. Taller drains with funnels suit vehicles on a lift.
- Emptying: a drain with a pump can empty straight into a waste oil tank. Without a pump, plan how you will transfer the oil.
- Capacity: pick a drain that holds more than your largest oil change, so it does not need emptying mid-job.
- Power: electric pumps need an outlet near where you empty the drain.
Common questions
Can I mix used oil with solvents or other fluids?
Keep used oil separate. Mixing it with solvents or other wastes can change how it must be handled under EPA rules.
Where does the oil go next?
Into a used oil tank labeled "Used Oil" until a recycler collects it. Our auto repair and quick lube page shows a complete shop setup.
